Christmas market day trips from Vienna 2026: Salzburg, Hallstatt, Prague

Are you in Vienna during Advent and want to see a Christmas market outside the city? With Belvedere Chauffeur, you travel to Salzburg, Hallstatt or Prague and back in one day. When is the Salzburg Christmas market 2026, and how do you see it in one day?

The Salzburg Christmas market stands on Domplatz, Residenzplatz and part of Kapitelplatz from 19 November 2026 to 1 January 2027. It is open every day, on 24 December only until 3 pm.

The day trip to Salzburg with Belvedere Chauffeur takes 11 hours from pickup. The drive takes about 3–3¼ hours each way. You have about 4 hours in Salzburg. Most of the old town is a pedestrian zone. Your chauffeur stops as close as the rules allow and waits nearby.

In December, the sun sets in Salzburg at about 4:15 pm. Choose your pickup time so that you are in the old town in the afternoon. Then you see the market in daylight and after sunset.

When does Hallstatt have a Christmas market, and can Salzburg fit into the same day?

Hallstatt holds its Christmas market on one day only: 8 December 2026, on the market square. Please check the opening hours before you go. On other days during Advent, you see the lakeside village without a market.

For Hallstatt alone, there is the day trip to Hallstatt: 11 hours, with about 3½ hours on site.

To see both places, book Hallstatt and Salzburg in one day. The day takes 13 hours, for example like this:

• 7 am: pickup at your address in Vienna
• 10:30 am: Hallstatt, about 2 hours
• 1:45 pm: Salzburg and its Christmas market, about 3 hours
• around 8 pm: back in Vienna

This way you are in Salzburg when it gets dark. The day is tightly planned. In each place, agree with your chauffeur where and when the trip continues.

When are the Prague Christmas markets 2026?

In Prague, the Christmas markets on Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square run from 28 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. Other markets, for example on Republic Square, open in late November and end on 24 December.

The day trip to Prague takes 12 hours. The drive takes about 3¾–4 hours each way, and you have about 4 hours in Prague. Much of the old town is a pedestrian zone. Your chauffeur parks nearby and picks you up again at the agreed time.

What about Budapest or Bratislava?

Budapest also has Christmas markets during Advent. The day trip to Budapest with 11 hours costs from € 1,080.

In Bratislava, the Christmas markets are on Main Square and Hviezdoslav Square from 26 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. The day trip to Bratislava takes 6 hours and costs from € 570.

What is different in winter?

• In winter, snow can make the drive longer. Then you have less time on site.
• During Advent, the old towns are busier than usual. Allow more time to walk through the market.
• It gets dark early. Agree with your chauffeur in advance where and when the ride back starts.
• For Prague, Budapest and Bratislava, please bring your passport or ID card.

Questions about Christmas market day trips

Can we stay longer at the market?

Within the hours you booked, you decide how to use your time on site. You agree the time for the ride back with your chauffeur. Longer than booked is only possible after checking with us.

How early should we book?

Online at least 24 hours before pickup. If you want to travel on a certain day, for example to Hallstatt on 8 December, book early.

Are the markets open over Christmas?

The Salzburg Christmas market is open from 9 am to 3 pm on 24 December, and from 11 am to 6 pm on 25 and 26 December. The markets in Bratislava are closed on 24 and 25 December. For Prague, please check the holiday opening hours before you go.
