Route and drive time
Salzburg is about 300 kilometres west of Vienna. The drive follows the A1 West motorway almost all the way, past St. Pölten and Linz. Without breaks it takes about 3–3¼ hours each way.

Old town and Getreidegasse
Narrow lanes with old wrought-iron shop signs, Mozart’s birthplace and the cathedral. The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Mirabell Gardens
Baroque gardens at Mirabell Palace, on the other side of the Salzach. The gardens are free to enter.

The castle above the town. Walk up or take the funicular. Funicular and admission are not included.

During the Salzburg Festival the old town is especially busy. If you leave early, the morning is quieter.

Yes, on the day trip. Melk is on the A1 West motorway, so a stop at the abbey is only a short detour. The break comes out of your time in Salzburg. Add your wish when you book.
