In short

“Luxury taxi” is not a legal term. At Belvedere Chauffeur (taxi-belvedere.at) it means a pre-booked ride with a chauffeur in a suit, no taxi sign, in one of 4 vehicle classes. Vienna Airport to the city costs from € 69, a chauffeur by the hour from € 95 per hour.

Prices per car, incl. VAT, valid since 9 October 2026.

In everyday use, a “luxury taxi” usually means a pre-booked ride with a chauffeur in a well-kept car, at a price you know in advance. This guide explains what you get with Belvedere Chauffeur in Vienna, which vehicle classes there are, what they cost and what Austrian law says about the word “taxi”.

What do you get with Belvedere Chauffeur?

With Belvedere Chauffeur in Vienna you book a set vehicle class, and the car is only for you and the people travelling with you. This is what you get:

  • At the airport, up to 60 minutes of waiting time, with flight tracking
  • A private ride: the car is only for you and your group
  • Leather seats, automatic climate control and charging cables
  • In First Class: a long wheelbase and massage seats
  • A chauffeur in a suit, no taxi sign on the roof
  • A name sign, also with your company logo: Meet & Greet for € 12 per ride

You see the fixed price before you book. Rides at night and at weekends cost the same. You pay the chauffeur after the ride, in cash or by card, with no prepayment.

Is “luxury taxi” a separate trade?

No. The Austrian Occasional Transport Act (Gelegenheitsverkehrs-Gesetz) has no trade called “luxury taxi”. Since 1 January 2021, taxis and hire cars with driver share one licensed trade for carrying passengers by car: the “Personenbeförderungsgewerbe mit Pkw – Taxi” (passenger transport by car – taxi). It covers cars that wait in public places or are ordered by phone, app or online, so pre-booked rides as well (section 3 of the Gelegenheitsverkehrs-Gesetz 1996).

Since then, “hire car with driver” is no longer a separate trade for cars. The former taxi and hire car licences now count as licences for the new trade. The hire car trade (Mietwagen-Gewerbe) now only covers buses.

Anyone who drives passengers in this trade generally needs a taxi driver card (Taxilenkerausweis, section 4 of the Austrian operating rules for non-scheduled passenger transport). To get the card, a driver must, among other things, pass an exam, for example on traffic law, local knowledge and dealing with passengers, and prove they have completed a first-aid course.

“Luxury” therefore describes the car and the service, not the trade. Belvedere Chauffeur is a brand of GTS Ground Transfer Service GmbH (FN 588382v), licensed for passenger transport; the supervising authority is the Magistrat der Stadt Wien (MA 63). How a chauffeur service differs from a taxi in daily use is explained on our page Chauffeur in Vienna.

Is this also available from Vienna Airport?

Yes. From Vienna Airport to the city you ride with Belvedere Chauffeur at a fixed price per car, in Business Class from € 69. Your chauffeur tracks your flight and waits up to 60 minutes after landing at no extra cost, for domestic flights up to 45 minutes. More on our page Vienna airport transfer.

You can also book First Class without Meet & Greet. To be met with a name sign in First Class, book the luxury sedan with Meet & Greet. Your chauffeur then waits for you with the sign and helps with your luggage.
